Focus on Thermal Management of New Energy Vehicles Aiming the “Dual Carbon” Goal

On February 7, 2022, Highly Technical Innovation Center’s Automotive Thermal Management and Core Parts R&D Center and Highly Marelli Global R&D Center (China) officially started operation, and an opening ceremony was held.

Aiming at the goal of “Dual Carbon”, development of the new energy vehicles (NEV) industry is the main force behind decarbonization. The new Global R&D Center mainly targets the NEV market in China, focusing on areas of “thermal management system and core components technology” and “advanced motor and drive technology”. Following the move of the industry and catching up with changes, it focuses on building both software and hardware development test platform, and strengthening its efforts to uniquely develop components for NEV. The new Global R&D Center in China and Highly Marelli’s Global R&D Center in Japan, by sharing product layout, technological innovation and talent development, makes global business development possible.

*Dual Carbon refers to China’s two climate goals to reach its carbon emissions peak before 2030 and become “carbon neutral” before 2060.

Under the goal of “dual carbon”, Highly explores the “Cooling and Heating & Core components” and “Auto Parts” sectors, and considers thermal management of NEV most important. In January 2021, when Highly Marelli was established as a joint venture between Highly and Marelli, Highly became one of the leading total solutions suppliers of heat pump and air conditioning systems for NEV, and made three strategic transitions, from household appliance to auto parts, from core parts to system integration and from domestic market to global market.

Executives from Shanghai Electric Group, Highly Group, Marelli and Highly Marelli attended the opening ceremony. Among them, Dong Jianhua, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Electric Group and Chairman of Highly Group, and David Fan, Global EVP and China President of Marelli gave speeches.
